KYM BARRETT (Costume Designer) previously worked with Baz Luhrmann on "Strictly Ballroom," both in its early adaptation as a play and on the subsequent film version.

Born in Brisbane, Australia, she attended Australia's University of New England. While Barrett initially pursued studies in classical literature, she ultimately opted for courses in design. She went on to study that craft at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts. As a freshman at NIDA, Barrett met Catherine Martin and Baz Luhrmann. This led to her work on the stage version of "Strictly Ballroom" and, later, the film, on which she served as wardrobe buyer and assistant.

Barrett has worked with all of Australia's major theater companies. In particular, she has collaborated with Australian director Neil Armfield on "The Tempest," an original work called "Aftershocks" and most recently "The Alchemist," all produced by the independent theater cooperative, Belvoir Street. She also taught design for the Australian Film Television and Radio School and the Australian Theater for Young People. She designed several productions including "Henry V" and "White Paper Flowers," winning a Youth Theatre Award for the latter. Other theatre credits include "Quest" (for which she won a Youth Theatre Award), "Twelfth Night," "Falsettos," "Chess, The Musical" and "Restoration," among many others.

She has also worked in various capacities, from costume designer to production designer to art director, for short films and television commercials. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO & JULIET marks her feature debut as costume designer.
